USA Fastener Manufacturers
Fasteners Made in the USA
Fasteners, screws, nuts and bolts manufactured in the USA have benefited from improved industrial production and construction activity over the past five years.
Revenue from generic fastening products has been falling due to product standardisation, with increasing competition from low-cost, low-priced imports produced in China and elsewhere.
In contrast, the precision fastening products segment has been growing steadily, and its sales are becoming more significant to the overall performance of the industry.
Precision-turned products are high in demand in the automotive industry, as well as for aerospace, medical manufacturing and other applications.
The industry is expected to benefit from persistent demand for fasteners by downstream markets and from rising world steel prices
North American fastener industry
Fastener manufacturing fastener industry in North America had grown since the 1970's to 450 companies with 600 plants and 50,000 workers, making about two billion fasteners a year. By 1985 only 250 companies, with 360 plants and about 35,000 employees, were left. This was because the industry was reeling from two developments. The influx of cheaper, foreign fasteners and OEMs' growing use of automated assembly equipment, which demanded nearly flawless fasteners and just-in-time delivery. To overcome these challenges, the industry directed its attention to highly engineered, value-added fasteners and formed parts that incorporated the fastening function to reduce assembly, labour and inventory costs.
